A few tips for success with your new year’s resolution…

There is a saying that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. I’m not sure if that is true but I can say that who you spend time with is extremely important. Some people will support and encourage you and some people will discourage you and not support you. Everyone has different value systems and that is fine but if you value health and fitness it’s important to have like-minded people in your inner circle. There’s a wealth of knowledge and resources out there from those have successfully completed fitness and nutrition plans and just about anything else you could want to do or try.

When I was in the United States Forest Service wild land firefighting it was amazing to me the can-do culture. One time we had to helicopter into the middle of nowhere and hike miles through rough terrain to pick up thousands of feet of hoses. It seemed like an impossible task, but no-one even thought twice about it. Like worker ants we just hiked continuously for 16 hours a day everyday carrying hoses and dropping them off at the landing zone. The attitude was we are going to get this done and we did. That’s the kind of mindset you want to have going into anything and you want to exclude people that aren’t in that frame of mind from your inner circle or do something else.

The power of the right mindset is unbelievable, and you can figure out just about anything along the way if you have this mindset. I have utilized coaches with the right mindset. To achieve my lifetime goals in powerlifting I worked with a coach who had been there and done that. To get in the best shape of my life for a bodybuilding competition I worked with a coach who had brought countless people into their best shape. The more people in the same frame of mind as you in your inner circle the more experiences and information you’ll have to pull from.

If you don’t have anyone start with books or podcasts and grow your inner circle from there!
